Best place to Visit
What the people more often recollect, dreaming to visit India?
What is informal, but the most popular symbol in the world of this country?
The symbol of love of Shah Jahan sung by poets to the wife, Empress Mumtaz Mahal.
Shah Jahan as him began to name respectfully after accession to the throne in 1628, had a big harem,
as well as it is necessary to such high governor. But spouses so gently loved each other, that the French doctor,
the philosopher and traveller Francois Berne who has lived in India twelve years, marked in the memoirs, that Shah Jahan
"did not pay attention to other women while she was alive". Mumtaz Mahal, unique from wives accompanied with him even in far
military campaigns, steadfastly carrying all burdens together with the husband, the unique person to whom he completely
trusted and even consulted!
For 17 years of a happy matrimony at them 13 children were born. And here, all a year later, in 1629 him
has overtaken to mountain: Mumtaz Mahal has not gone through heavy sorts of 14-th child. 36 years for the woman in those
days were very solid age, and frequent birth exhausted health. It happens in the camp broken under Burhanpur, in a tent
Shah Jahan which came back from a victorious campaign in the Dean. In the same place wished to bury and Mumtaz Mahal.
The check was on the verge of suicide. His head for ever has mournfully lowered, hair have turned grey.
In half a year widower has transported a body to Agra where he has decided to
erect the mausoleum, on beauty worthy his beloveds, and on greatness - forces of their feelings.
During the period of board of Great Moguls, Agra level with Delhi was considered as capital of the empire
which have reached by then the blossoming. By tradition, in suburb, on coast of Jumna also it has been decided to erect a
building. The place has been chosen surprisingly successfully, any earthquake still yet has not caused serious damage to the
mausoleum.
The building was under construction 22 years, on construction have collected from all country of more twenty
thousand person. The main architect, shirazian Ustad (that "master" means) Isa Khan has received unlimited powers, and he has
justified them. A marble brought for 300 kilometers from unique rajputan stone quarries. On a legend, to construction
foreign architects - the venetian and the Frenchman have been involved, but their original names have reached us.
Probably, their contribution is a magnificent park which conducts to the mausoleum. All complex is the park
closed from three sides. The entrance in it, similar to a palace from a red stone, is decorated by white patten "portico",
from above 11 (!) domes, on each side - two towers, also crown white domes. A fencing are high galleries from the red sandstone,
stretched to minarets and the mausoleum.
The park harmoniously supplements all ensemble as it is planned as the road leading to the main relic, its axis
is the irrigation canal divided in the middle of a way by marble pool. To four minarets from it there are paths.
From the river anything is not present, that nothing covered the mausoleum. Jumna here not so quiet,
therefore to see ideal reflection it is practically impossible, that emphasizes illusion of unreality. Many people
specially come on opposite coast early in the morning to see personally as soars in a pre-dawn fog this majestic building,
and with the first beams of the sun game of color on its walls begins.
Probably, this lightness is created by unusual proportions for us when the height is equaled to width of a
facade, and the facade is cut huge semicircular to niches and it seems weightless. And can, it is the main dome carries away
up behind itself all other design - four small domes and four minarets.
To the heart the ladder conducts, at its beginning leave footwear, as before a temple... Whitemarble foam of
walls is decorated moust skillful by mosaics from thousand precious and semiprecious stones. The stalks of plants weaved into
a refined ornament and ligature the Arabian letters which have been laid out by a black marble. Fourteen sura from the Koran -
a traditional ornament for Muslim architecture crown the arches of arches above windows. In the center - a carved marble
screen behind which two false tombs are visible, or cenotaph, crypts - under a floor. Very silently, in the windows opened to
all winds solar beams fall. On walls - garlands of unfading stone flowers, an eternal carpet covering a floor and walls.
When construction has come to an end, in 1653, the growing old governor has given the order to start erection
of the second building - the mausoleum for him, an exact copy of the first, but from a black marble.
It was already recklessness: the country is ruined by numerous wars and the expensive project, people grumbled.
In 1658 Shah Jahan was overthrown by his son Aurangzeb. He has stopped construction of the second mausoleum, and the father has
grinded up to the end of a life in a tower of the Red Fort in Agra. There also has lead the remained 9 years, in a room from
which window was visible Taj Mahal.
Only after death he again has reunited with favourite - according to the will, him have buried beside, in one
with her a crypt.
Now the mausoleum - one of the most visited places not only tourists, but also hindus. Once the huge doors
symbolized an entrance in paradise, were entirely from silver, thin figure silver tacks has been laid out by thousand on them.
Now doors copper, former are stolen. And jewels on a facade and from within have strongly thinned since then. Is not present
both a gold parapet, and a pearl coverlet on a place of burning of bodies...
